Vikings Run Strong at Lavino Relays
The Vikings ran 3:34.35 at Saturday’s meet at Lawrenceville
Union Catholic’s sprint medley relay team went to the Lavino Relays in Lawrenceville on Saturday with one goal in mind. To drop a red hot time.
That’s exactly what they did as the Vikings burned a 3:34.35, the third fastest time in the nation this season by a high school boys team, to finish first. UC finished just ahead of runner-up Lawrenceville, second in a US #4 3:34.71.
The only two teams in the country to run faster than UC are St. Benedict’s Prep of Newark (3:33.46) and Bronxville of N.Y. (3:33.79).
The four runners that cranked out the sizzling time for UC were senior Chinedu Okoro (23.1 for 200), junior Conor Reilly (24.1 for 200), junior Elijah Brown (49.5 for 400), and freshman Myles Plummer (1:57.4 for 800).
In addition to its SMR victory, the Vikings also ran a very fast shuttle hurdle relay, placing second in 31.22, the fourth fastest time by a N.J. team this winter. UC finished just behind the N.J. #3 time of 31.07 run by Nottingham. UC’s four hurdles were Obadare Animashaun, Ryan McLaughlin, Brandon Leslie, and Oluwafemi Asenuga.
The Girls Squad won the 4×200 and 4×400 Relays and finished 2nd in the 4×800 and Long Jump Relays.
