Myles Plummer and Leena Morant each hammered out impressive races to lead a strong charge by the Union Catholic cross-country squads at Saturday’s 40th NJCTC Bernie Magee Class Meet on the Greystone course at Central Park in Morris Plains.
Plummer, one of the top young runners in the state, cranked out a 16:29 over the 3.1-mile courre to place second in the boys Sophomore Division race to help lead the Vikings to a 10th place finish. Plummer’s time was the 11th fastest in the three varsity races combined.
Morant made a strong season debut by running 19:26 to finish fourth in a very talented girls Senior Division field. Morant’s time was the seventh fastest of the meet and helped lead UC to a second-place finish in the Senior Division behind Ridge, 15-39. UC’s two other scorers in the Senior Division were Ashleigh Patterson, 11th in 21:00, and Zoe Lee, 25th in 21:22.
