Brown Blasts NJ#4 All-Time 600 to help lead UC boys to B Division title at NJCTC Championships
Brown ran 1:20.04 to win the 600, the second fastest time in the nation this season
Elijah Brown ran one of the fastest 600 meter times in state history to help lead the Union Catholic boys to the B Division team title at Sunday’s New Jersey Catholic Track Conference Championships at Ocean Breeze on Staten Island.
Brown, a junior, won the 600 in 1:20.04, which is the second fastest time in the nation this season and #4 all-time in New Jersey history.
The only three NJ runners who have gone faster than Brown in high school are Shaquan Brown of Paterson Kennedy (1:17.9 in 2005-the national record for seven years), Clayton Parros of Seton Hall Prep (1:18.90 in 2009), and Luis Peralta of Passaic, who leads the nation this season at 1:19.14.
UC, which finished second to Christian Brothers Academy, 69-64, in the overall team standings (A and B Divisions combined) received several strong performances.
Conor Reilly won the pole vault by clearing 14-0 and was second in the long jump with a 21-2 1/2. Freshman Myles Plummer finished second in the 1,000 in 2:32.45. Uchenna Duru was third in the shot put at 50-10 1/2, Ryan McLaughlin took fourth in the hurdles in 7.89, Matt Axt placed third in the triple jump at 40-3, Brandon Leslie in the triple jump (39-7), Justin Lopez finished third in the pole vault (11-6)., and Obadare Animashaun was fourth in the vault at 11-0.
