UC Boys Run US#1 + US#2 Sprint Medley Relays
UC boys blast top two times in the nation in SMR, a remarkable accomplishment
The Union Catholic boys produced a stunning result when they pulled off remarkably rare accomplishment at Friday’s Marine Corps Holiday Classic at the 168th Street Armory in New York.
It’s tough enough and impressive enough just to run the top time in the nation, but the Vikings did even more that! They spread out eight runners to cover two sprint medley relay teams, and they came up the No. 1 and No. 2 times in the country this season.! And they did so in dramatic and breathtaking fashion.
There was never a doubt that UC would finish 1-2 in the SMR. The only question was which foursome of Vikings would get the win.
When the dust finally settled, the quartet of Conor Reilly, Oluwafemi Asenuga, Connor Copper, and Elijah Brown emerged victories when the George-Mason-bound Brown, who anchored in 1:55.5, caught teammate Myles Plummer late in the race and stopped the clock at 3:34.66. Plummer, a sophomore, split 1:56.8 and came across the line in 3:34.67. UC’s runner-up SMR squad consisted of Matt Axt, Liam Bennett, Tyhir Jones, and Plummer.
