UC girls steamroll its way to fourth straight State Non-Public A T&F Championship
Morant, Lufrano, Tucker, Chadwick and the 4×100 and 4×400 all win
The Union Catholic girls track and field team completed another undefeated season when the Vikings put together a remarkable performance to runaway with its fourth straight title at the NJSIAA Non-Public A State Championships that concluded on Saturday at Franklin High School in Somerset.
The Vikings steamrolled the competition by ringing up 153 points, the most of any winning team at the Group Championships. Runner-up Paramus Catholic finished with 73 points. Full results of the meet are here
UC picked up individual wins from sophomore Leena Morant, who won her second straight 800 (personal best and NJ #4 2:11.33), senior Amaya Chadwick, who won her third straight 100 title in a NJ #4 14.04, sophomore Sydney Tucker in the 100 (12.33) and from junior Jerika Lufrano in the 3,200 (a PR of 10:55.15). Lufrano also placed second in the 1,600 with a PR of 5:02.38. Lufrano’s times in the 1,600 and 3,200 are both school records.
The Vikings also smashed the meet record in the 4×100 (47.50) and won the 4×400 in a NJ #1 3:51.04. In the 4×100, Kira Alexander, Sydney Tucker, Felicia Quainoo, and Khamil Evans shared the baton in the 4×100. The splits in the 4×400 were 58.8 for Avery Jordan, 56.8 for Morant, 57.4 for Zamira Ysaac, and 57.8 for Khamil Evans. Senior Tyler Scott also had a big meet, placing second in the triple jump (38-6) and fifth in the high jump (5-2).
UC will be back in action this Saturday at the State Meet of Champions at 2 p.m. at Northern Burlington High School. A list of every UC athlete competing at the M of C can be found here
