Union Catholic’s Brianna Ewing, one of the state’s top hurdlers, signed her National Letter of Intent with the University of Maine on Wednesday morning during a ceremony in the main lobby of the school.
“This is very emotional for me,’’ said Ewing, who lives in Franklin. “I’ve been through a lot and worked very hard to reach this point. “The atmosphere here at Union Catholic really helped me achieve all my goals. To get a full ride is more than I ever imagined. I have my family, friends and teammates here to share this with. I’m just so jubilant right now.’’
Ewing has built a remarkable resume during her track and field career at Union Catholic, highlighted by several outstanding performances on the county, state and national level.
As a junior last spring, the versatile Ewing placed second in the 100-meter hurdles and third in the 400 hurdles at the Union County Championships, finished fourth in the high hurdles at the South Jersey, Non-Public A Championships, and placed fourth at the state Non-Public A Championships to qualify for the Meet of Champions.
