Girls 4×400 Wins 4th Straight MOC Title
Union Catholic’s 4×400 wins record 4th straight title at Meet of Champions
Bennet-Jones, Evans, Ysaac and Morant combine on the victory
The Union Catholic girls, one of the most dominant track and field programs in recent state history, added to its remarkable legacy with a historic victory in the 4×400-meter relay at Saturday’s NJSIAA Meet of Champions at the Bennett Center in Toms River.
When UC sophomore Leena Morant crossed the finish line to put the finishing touches on the victory in 3:56.90, it gave the Vikings an unprecedented fourth straight M of C title in the 4×400. No boys or girls teams indoors or outdoors had ever won four straight 4×400 titles at the M of C. The Columbia girls captured three in a row twice indoors (1995-97 and 2012-14) and the UC boys won three in a row two indoors and outdoors from 2013-15.
Senior Mia Bennett-Jones led off the 4×400 with a split of 61.1. Junior Khamil Evans then ran 58.6 before handing off to sophomore Zamira Ysaac (59.4). Morant closed it out with a 58.4 carry.
UC had several other medal winners at the meet.
The 4×800 team of Alexandra Borik, Ashleigh Patterson, Ysaac, and Morgan Jackson placed third in the 4×800 in 9:28.97. Evans was eighth in the 400 in 58.21, and Morant placed fifth in the 800 in 2:15.45.
