UC’s Njoroge and Samuels sign National Letters of Intent

Njoroge will play soccer at Jefferson University, Samuels will continue her T&F career at Wagner

Two members of Union Catholic’s Class of 2018 gathered with their families, coaches, classmates, and school administrators for a special ceremony in the main lobby of the school on Friday morning to sign their National Letters of Intent.
Josh Njoroge signed to play soccer at Jefferson University in Philadelphia, and Christina Samuels signed to continue her track and field career at Wagner College on Staten Island.
Njoroge, who lives in Union, combined great field vision, remarkable balls skills, and tremendous leadership to become one of the top defensive soccer players in Union County this past season.
The rock steady play in the back by Njoroge, who was a captain for coach Tim Breza‘s squad , was a big reason why Union Catholic won its second straight Sky Division title in the Union County Conference, and finished with a 10-4-3 record.
“This really means the world to me,” said Njoroge, who wants to be an occupational therapist. “To see all my hard work, the blood, sweat and tears pay off like this feels great.
Samuels, one of the top throwers in Union County, through a personal best of 35-9 ½ in the shot put when she was fourth at the Union County Indoor Championships this past winter, and has a personal best of 102-10 in the discus, which came when Samuels was fifth at the Union County Championships last spring.
Samuels, who has helped the Vikings win several county and state titles during her great career at UC, placed third in the discus at the Union County Conference Championships yesterday.
“I’m really proud of myself because I never really thought I’d be going to a Division 1 school for track,” said Samuels, who lives in Roselle. “But I really worked hard this past year to make this happen, so this really means a lot to me.”
